Paul "Zorro" Zorovich

I started yoyoing on May 18, 2013 on the day I held my 13th birthday party. One of the friends I invited, Evan Gronberg, was into yoyoing (and still is) and happened to get me a yoyo. It was a YYF Fast 201 and to make a long story short, I loved it. He gave me some links to YoyoExpert and YoYoTricks.com (back then known as YoTricks). I immediately started learning how to throw. I can remember being so ignorant when I first started that I thought I had made up a trick when I got the yoyo to spin at the end of my string.

After learning a handful of tricks I started to learn more and more about yoyos and got myself a few more basic throws including a Duncan Pro Z and my first metal yoyo, a Duncan Metal Drifter. Believe it or not, it was the Metal Drifter that eventually got me into 5A. It shipped with a blue skull-shaped counterweight and I did not know what it was. So, I went back to the store page and I saw that it was a counterweight for freehand (5A) play. At that moment, though, I had only learned a small amount of beginner tricks and did not worry about the counterweight for a while.

My first contest was the 2014 Georgia State Yoyo Contest in Atlanta on September 27, 2014. I did not do too well in 1A or 5A. Eventually, however, my 5A picked up my 1A kind of idled in the same spot.

I went to the 2015 Florida State Yoyo Contest and got 4th in 5A, which was a confidence booster. This contest was the real beginning of competitive 5A for me.

In June 2015, I got the Phoenix prototypes and immediately starting playing with them every day for hours and hours. I made a freestyle for the 2015 Southeast Classic in August.

At the SEC, I received a 5A seed to the 2015 US National Yoyo Contest in Los Angeles (Redondo Beach), California. That contest was a blast and I got 8th place overall. Since then I've been getting better and better, always improving my 1A and 5A.

In August 2016, I went to the 2016 World Yoyo Contest and placed 17th overall in the 5A division.
